After the first meeting of the Upper School Theater Ensemble last week, we have decided to shift gears and produce Ionesco’s Rhinoceros for our fall production. Written in 1960, Ionesco’s play satirizes ‘modern society while discovering new uses of language and theatrical techniques.’ New York Times
With a great deal of humor, it deals with the serious subjects of totalitarianism, conformity, and despair. Some of the students studied this play in a scene study class last year and are psyched to put it on its feet at Winthrop.
We will be producing Postcards from Canterbury as our winter production and are committed to the material with a larger number of actors as the 7th grade is invited to join us for co-curricualr theater in the winter.
The rehearsal schedule has been a bit revised, so please review the last couple of weeks for changes.
Thank you to the parents who attended the volunteer meeting last night. I will be posting a list of props, set pieces, etc…we might be seeking.
We’re off to an exciting start!
