Greetings to BCD parents from Courtney and Sarah, Parents’ Association Co-Presidents
What is BCD’s Parents’ Association?
The Parents’ Association is the community of all BCD parents, who give their time, energy, and expertise to school events and extracurricular activities. Grandparents and “Grand Friends” Day, Community Campus Day, student assemblies, Thanksgiving Soup, Alaska Day, Faculty Appreciation Week, and Fun and Field Day are some of the annual events made possible by BCD parent volunteers.
The PA also sponsors guest speakers to discuss education, parenting, and other current issues important to the BCD community; these on-campus programs also serve as outreach to the general public.
The Parents Association Steering Committee organizes these events and their parent volunteers. PA Steering Committee meetings are held once a month on Thursday at 8:15 a.m. in the band room at the north end of Furey Hall; the meeting schedule is available on the BCD calendar and in the PA information posted on MyBCD. All are welcome to PA Steering Committee meetings to find out more about the Parents Association, to become involved, and to share ideas and concerns. Steering committee membership is open to parents with children at BCD for at least a year.
All BCD parents are invited and encouraged to participate in PA-sponsored and PA-assisted events, activities, and projects — a great way to be a vital part of the BCD community. Courtney McDonnell is the mother of three BCD students: Ben in B3s, Jamie in Grade 1, and Emmet in Grade 3. She assumed co-chair of the PA in December of this year, replacing Wendi Hauck.
Sarah Novak has been a BCD parent since 2006. Her daughter Hallie is in 8th grade. Sarah and husband Glenn are freelance editors and writers. Sarah writes publicity and marketing publications for area businesses and nonprofits, writes for the children’s world history magazine Calliope, and is on the board of the Berkshire Music School.
