7th GRADE HISTORY FAIR

7th G History Fair 006On Tuesday, Fitzpatrick Hall was transformed to retell the stories of the Civil War as part of the 7th Grade History Fair. Exhibits and reports on everything from artillery in the war to what soldiers ate, how women supported the war movement – as both nurses and spies, history of the Red Cross, the use of animals in the war effort, and other facts about the Civil War and times offered great lessons for BCD students and parents.

WHAT A FUN, FIELD DAY!

Fun & Field Day 025The weather could not have been better for the beloved BCD tradition of Fun & Field Day. Younger students participated in games, face painting, and crafts projects while older students participated in athletic games of skill, jewelry making, and other fun activities. Sno-cones, popcorn, fresh fruit and plenty of water kept the kids running strong in the heat until the day’s barbecue lunch. After lunch, it was all about keeping cool on the water slide and in the bounce house.

The Week in Review & Upcoming Calendar Events

Sports Update

Eighteen girls came out for the JV team grades 4-6 this year.  The girls brought a great deal of heart and enthusiasm to practice each day.  So far we have played two games, one against Pine Cobble and one against IMS.  In both cases, the JV girls played against girls that were in the sixth, seventh, and eighth grade. While we lost both games, our JV girls stuck with each team and never gave up trying, which allowed us to score some great goals. Monday we face Dutchess Country Day for our final game.  I couldn’t be happier with the dedication and improvement I have seen each of the girls make this season.  We also have a lot of fun on the field as we practice being “fierce” and do our warm-ups with, in the words of one of the girls, “gusto”. – Coach Kate Meyer

Second Grade Native American Legends

The Second Grade celebrated Native American Legends last Friday with a Pow Wow that featured the telling of 10 legendscreated by the two second grade clans, the Deer Clan and the Bear Clan. Their legends described how such things as the Unicorn, day and night, lacrosse, and rainbows came to be.

Spring Music Concert

Fitzpatrick Hall was alive with the sound of music Friday as a packed house of parents and friends came together to hear performances by the Lower School Chorus, Middle School Chorus, Middle School Band, Vocal Ensemble, Caribbean Music class, Upper School Band, and other performance groups. Missed the concert or want to hear your favorite songs again? Check out the video!

News from the Week

Two 9th Grade Students Recognized by Lenox School Alumni Association

LSAA 014Ninth graders I. Ciaburri & I. van der Meulen were recognized at the MS/US Morning Meeting today by the Lenox School for Boys Alumni Association for their service to BCD.  Every year, the Lenox School Alumni Association recognizes two 9th graders with $1,000 scholarships in their name to BCD for exemplifying the Lenox School’s motto: “Not to be served, but to serve.” Presenting their scholarship award were Jim Fawcett, BCD English teacher formerly of The Lenox School for Boys; Bob Sansone, President of the Lenox School Alumni Association; and Lenox School alumnus Charlie McGee.

When BCD was founded in 1946, it was housed on the campus of The Lenox School for Boys, an independent secondary school located on what is today the home of Shakespeare & Company. The school closed its doors in 1971 but alums stayed connected and in 1987 formed an active alumni association, which raises money to give out scholarships each year in the names of students at BCD and Miss Hall’s.

Annual Giving Fund Phonathon

Please answer the call on Monday, May 10 when our parent volunteers call to ask about your donation to the Annual Giving Fund. BCD depends on the Annual Giving Fund to bridge the gap between the revenue raised through tuition and the total cost of educating every child – your child. While every family is asked to give as much as they can, participation in the campaign is as important as how much someone can give. Thank you for your participation as we strive for 100% parent participation!
