National Girls and Women in Sports Day – February 1

On February 1, we will celebrate 40 years since Title IX was signed to promote gender equality in sports.  This is a federal law that must provide equal sports opportunities for girls and women.  In 1972, less than 350,000 girls participated in high school sports.  Now, over 3 million  play sports.  We have come a long way, but there is still work to be done.  The Middle School girls will wear colorful headbands to support girl power and girls are athletes too!

Middle School Gymnastic Demonstration

At the conclusion of our gymnastic unit for all of the grades in physical education, the Middle School presented a gymnastic demonstration for the Lower School children.  We hear a lot of wow and oh my coming from the children.  Here are a few highlights.

Log It Books For Lower School

Now that the fall activities are slowing down, it is time to get out the Log It Books for the Lower School Students to use at home.   Each grade will be given a notebook to send home with a student for the weekend.  Try to fill in some activities that you have done on the weekend.  Many thanks!   Mrs. Heady

Fall Activities

We are back to school and everyone looks rested and in great physical condition.  We will begin the year with group games and enjoy the outdoors as long as the weather cooperates.  Middle School children will try their hand at orienteering, badminton, bocce to name a few fall sports.  Lower School children use various balls for skill development, large games, and lots of play time.   Pre-K children have fun.  Please join us any time you would like to have some exercise.

Spring has Sprung!!!!

Nothing stops us from finishing our season outdoors!!!!  In between the rain drops we have been playing baseball,  scoring our personal fitness best in sit-ups, half push-ups, V-Sit flexibility and walk/jogging from 1/4 to 3/4 miles.  We are becoming golfers, playing scoop lacrosse, and we even had a chance to learn how to fence in the MS classes.  The little ones are playing T-ball, throwing frisbees, jumping hurdles and playing lots of running games.  Enjoy the summer and get lots of active time outdoors as a family.

YOGA FOR THE WINTER BLUES

During the winter each classroom will have a chance to practice a few yoga poses and some breathing during the school day.  I have given each homeroom teacher some yoga cards and books to choose a pose a day or whatever they feel they would like to do in the class.   I will be using yoga in the gym class as well.  The idea is to provide some techniques to teach the children how to relax, change a mood, or just take a moment to breath.    I will let you know how things are going in a few weeks.

Quidditch comes to BCD

Chasers, Beaters, Seekers, Keepers, and The Snitch.  Beaters hit Chasers and Seekers with a Bludger, Chasers throw a Quaffle at the goal, the Seekers try to grab the Snitches flag.   All of this is played while riding a broom, except the Snitch who has baby wings to fly.  Are you confused?  Ask your children!!!!
