Working on Global Projects & Making Talking Heads

June 6th, 2012 · No Comments · Featured

The fifth graders have been working on 2 separate projects this term. One project was to use Frames, a software developed for stop motion animation, to make a simple “talking head” animation about one of the artifacts they saw on the trip to the Metropolitan Museum of Art. These are below, with more to be added by the end of the week.

The other project is a much larger global collaboration project which actually began just before March break. In this project, called A Week in the Life, students from BCD’s 5th grade were teamed up with students from around the world to learn about and share information around 6 sub topics. These schools represented more than 600 students, from 9 countries The students used Edmodo to introduce themselves, then went on to Popplet-and added information, organized their thoughts about their topics. This is an example:
The next step was to take photographs to share with others and to comment on them. And finally, the students were asked to reflect upon and comment on 3 essential questions about the project. This was a lot of work for 5th graders and a lot for them to keep track of.

This is a link to the project wiki, where you can find links to google earth/google maps to show you all of the classrooms involved in this project. The links to the final projects are:
