Scratch in Fifth Grade Computer

March 4th, 2012 · No Comments · Uncategorized

We’ve been very busy trying to get all the Scratch projects finished up and posted online. The fifth graders did an amazing job programming with Scratch. They were given several choices of types of projects to choose from:
1. Tell a Story
2. Make a Game
3. Name Project

They also had to add comments to show what the scripts they used actually did. The variety of choices and the quality of the scripts written were wonderful to see. This week they have been uploading their scratch games to the Scratch website and getting the embed codes to actually save their games to put on their own Google sites.
If it says Error- try refreshing your page:

Try Sam’s game:
Use up/down arrow keys to hit Bad Guy. Don’t hit the color blue!

5T Computer Homework

February 1st, 2012 · No Comments · Featured

Please check your portfolios on Google Sites. All portfolio work must be up to date by Friday, Feb 10th. Sites must be reorganized, have the image from your summer reading project with your reflection, the image from your comic life project with your reflection, your typing test chart- appropriately named with labeled axes, an attached graded word quiz and for those of you in DrL’s history class- all pictures and reflections should be completed on your history page. If you need help with this, please refer back to the directions page http://mybcd.org/computer5/google-sites-how-to/. The list of missing work is available on the student copy of Gr 5 Google Site work- which is a google doc shared with each 5th grader.

Where to see student work?

December 4th, 2011 · No Comments · Featured

Several parents have asked where they can view their student’s work for computer class. Most is posted as completed on this blog and all of their work is posted on their Google Site.  Every student has created a site for their work and their reflections on the work they have done in class.  5T and 5Q are not exactly in the same place at the moment, due to missed classes for holidays, concerts, etc.  Most of the students in 5Q have completed their work on their site, with 5T finishing up before break.

How do you access these sites? Currently they are not open to the public. You must use your student’s log in to access these. Go to http://sites.mybcd.org to log in.  Their username is firstnamelastinitialbcd  and they each have their own individual password ( it’s their colornumber password).

Please check out their work and feel free to comment on their page. There is a comment box at the bottom of each page.  For student who wish to work on their sites at home, this is a sample site with directions.

Grade 5 computer: summer reading projects

October 29th, 2011 · No Comments · Uncategorized

Fifth graders have been working on their summer reading projects. This consisted of 2 parts: the first part was to make an outline of the book they chose to report on, using Inspiration9- a graphic organizer; the second part was to export their outline as a graphics file, upload to Voicethread and record their narration. This was a challenging project for many, with strict requirements for the outline and what had to be included on the final voicethread recording.

Computer5 Internet Safety

Below are the movies we will be watching in class over the next several weeks. The two sections of 5th grade may not be in sync, as one section is still finishing up their summer reading project. The focus will be on protecting your privacy and digital etiquette.
We will watch this in class and students will go to the site to try out the activities.

We will watch the Digital Etiquette Brain Pop movie and try the quiz and activities.
Tracking Teresa

We will be watching these movies in class either this week or next, depending on the section your child is in and talking about cyberbullying. We will discuss what this is, and what to do if strangers or friends are mean online.  One more addition to the movies watched in class- http://www.youtube.com/oceanking97

Directions- grade 5 computer project

September 30th, 2011 · No Comments · Uncategorized

Dear 5th graders,
You need to get your Inspiration diagrams finished and uploaded to VoiceThread.com. Read, listen to, watch directions if you are unsure of the steps. If you have trouble recording on VoiceThread, use Audacity and upload the mp3. Remember- Read directions. Make sure you have all of the elements on your diagram and that you talk about each one in your recording, along with your book recommendation. This powerpoint was also shared with you in your google docs. Check your email for the link.

Stop Motion Animations

June 19th, 2011 · No Comments · Featured

Fifth graders had a lot of fun making their stopmotion videos. It was a lot of work and each group seemed to approach their myth differently. Some used clay, others used images from the web and others used the drawing tools in the program. This is a short composite video of the 5th graders at work. To view all of the videos see the set below. You can navigate through them by using the arrows which appear towards the bottom. A couple of groups have let me know that the video that rendered isn’t quite the same as it was when it came off the program. I will be checking these over the next several weeks to see if I can correct the problem.
