The Week in Review & Upcoming Calendar Events

Sports Update

Eighteen girls came out for the JV team grades 4-6 this year.  The girls brought a great deal of heart and enthusiasm to practice each day.  So far we have played two games, one against Pine Cobble and one against IMS.  In both cases, the JV girls played against girls that were in the sixth, seventh, and eighth grade. While we lost both games, our JV girls stuck with each team and never gave up trying, which allowed us to score some great goals. Monday we face Dutchess Country Day for our final game.  I couldn’t be happier with the dedication and improvement I have seen each of the girls make this season.  We also have a lot of fun on the field as we practice being “fierce” and do our warm-ups with, in the words of one of the girls, “gusto”. – Coach Kate Meyer

Dangerous Women Help BCD Raise Money for Financial Aid

DangerousWomen_FBIt was a true BCD community event at Shakespeare & Company this weekend as BCD’s own Laurie Schiff, Lisa Kantor, and Pam Rich, along with Debbie Zecher treated everyone to an exceptional evening of ‘Song & Sass.’

Saturday night’s gala performance started off with a cocktail hour of Dangerous-tinis, courtesy of Chris & Tyler Weld and Berkshire Mountain Distillers, hors d’oeuvres courtesy of BCD parents Lara Brown, Bev Hosokawa, and Hilary Ferrone, and entertainment courtesy of Heather & Guy Fishman.

Once in the theatre, our emcee for the evening, Friar Paul Frantz, and his sidekick Squire Tom (Connolly), kicked off the performance by sharing a pictorial retrospective of ‘Dangerous Women’ throughout history and the movies. Then it was on to the Class Gifts Raffle, which raised over $2,000 (thank you students and teachers and Doria Polinger!!!), and then the live auction with Guest Auctioneer & BCD Development Chair Robin McGraw, which raised over $13,000!!! After a first class performance by the Dangerous Women and their band, the evening concluded with a Dangerous Desserts Reception of fine sweets & treats courtesy of BCD parents Judy Merritt, Doria Polinger, and Wendi & Mat Hauck, and Cheesecake Charlie’s.

How much talent does BCD have? See for yourself!

BCD students performed their talents before a standing-room-only crowd of cheering fans last Saturday night. Performances ranged from ballet to stand-up comedy to blistering guitar solos and everything in between. All proceeds will be sent to Haiti to help with the relief effort. A big thank you to all who made this magical evening possible! Thanks to Michael Flower for taking these photos.

Arabian Nights to Premier Thursday & Friday

Arabian Nights“Some stories are so amazing they must be seen to be believed.”

The 6th grade will be performing two stories from The Arabian Nights on Thursday and Friday at 7:00 p.m. in Furey Hall.  Hilarious and irreverent, the stories are adapted from several different translations by Rachel Siegel and directed by Ms. Siegel and Meg Agnew, mother of Skylar Wisswaesser in Grade 8.

Put on your turban and come take a goofy romp through some of the weirdest and most wonderful stories ever told.

Please note that this play features a hangman’s noose and [goofy] violence, and is not appropriate for very young children.

The Waiting Room

TWR_webThe BCD Stage And Film Ensemble will be presenting its original fall play, “The Waiting Room” on Friday, November 6th and Saturday, November 7th at 7:00 pm. The play is at BCD’s Winthrop Theater at 45 West Street in Lenox and you don’t need a reservation.

The play is recommended for ages 10 and up, and there is a suggested donation at the door.

This is a very thought-provoking piece of work by these students. The style combines narrative drama, movement, music, and even…puppets?!
