Dear BCD Families,
It seems too good to be true, but what appeared to be a rapid spread of
possible H1N1 influenza at BCD, has come to a sudden halt. To my knowledge only one case at BCD was confirmed with lab results and less than a dozen more had physician confirmation that H1N1 flu was likely. We are estimating that about 18 percent of our students may have contracted the flu in the past month. Hopefully many more have managed to develop antibodies and we shall have a decent, healthy winter. Determining whether we have a common cold, H1N1 or seasonal flu or a strep throat infection remains a challenge. Click here for a comparison chart that may be helpful. Please continue to use vigilance and keep your child home if there is doubt about full wellness. After any cold or flu there is potential for a secondary infection such as sinusitis, bronchitis, ear infection or pneumonia all of which are likely to require medical care. Please continue to keep us updated by a quick phone call or a note anytime your child is absent. Thank you and have a wonderful, healthy Thanksgiving.
